Premature Ejaculation - Psychological and Physical Causes

Premature ejaculation (PE) is an embarrassing problem for many men. It occurs when you ejaculate semen too early (generally, within 2 minutes), leaving your partner frustrated because she doesn't get adequate time to reach orgasm. Consequently, you too feel ashamed of your incapabilities, which may lead to mental complications such as performance anxiety and depression. If you are a rookie in terms of real sex, you are likely to feel too excited while entering your partner. So things go a bit out of control sometimes, and you don't have command over your male organ. But don't worry too much, for you're not the only one facing this situation. Studies have shown that about 10% adult population in the UK suffer from ejaculation problems at some point in their lives. Some of them have reported frequent problems with untimely seminal release, whereas some face it sporadically.

What causes premature ejaculation?

Psychological and other causes
Sexually inexperienced individuals are more likely to encounter ejaculation problems compared to men who are into steady relationships. Just as a new job or your first job makes you nervous and too eager to please your boss, so does sex.

Also, those sneaky sexual acts with your girlfriend on the couch or in the backeseat of your car give neither of you enough time to indulge in romantic foreplays. Instead, you need to push things hurriedly, for fear of being spotted by someone else.

Making out with a new partner can make you feel conscious about your performance. You want to give your woman that immaculate and unspeakable feeling of orgasmic pleasure, which you've seen so many times while reading or watching pornographic materials. But reality differs and it differs a lot from acts performed by professionals for money and entertainment. So for you it's to better be relaxed than rushed.

With sex, you can do without knowing what you can do; but you'll fall flat on your face if you don't know what you can't do. So trying to emulate an exotic posture when you are not at all comfortable with it may cause you to come earlier. Similarly, unrealistic expectations from yourself may lead to serious physical injuries, let alone ejaculation problems. For example, trying all the positions mentioned in the Kamasutra may not be advised for you and your partner. Comfort with what you do and familiarity with whom you do are the keys for holding on to your release for longer. So don't change your sexual partner frequently if you want to get rid of your PE troubles.

Other factors for premature ejaculation may include, but are not limited to, personal and professional stress or anxiety, childhood trauma over sex resulting from abuse, and lack of confidence in general.

Physical causes
Ejaculation is controlled by a neurotransmitter called serotonin. It is produced in the brains. A low volume of serotonin production by your brain can cause you to ejaculate prematurely. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) are used to treat the physical causes of PE.
